seeking acceptance
Christian ideologies continue to be a present wound for the queer community,
as these monolith structures render fear and hope to push out queer individuals; we are allowed, you are allowed within their walls.
For many LGBTQ+ individuals who grew up in the American South,
contemporary Christian teachings often estrange members of the queer community
turning toward the church for support. As the mapmaker, I have long assumed that
Christian churches would not accept those who would like to mend their relationships between
church and self. This map creates an interface for queer individuals to approach Christian churches, groups,
and religious-based greek life informed in order to stay safe within their communities. The classifications describe
acceptance from the perspective of churches through their doctrine, not as a survey of their communities.
